What's New?
Kia India has finally revealed the prices for the 2024 Sonet facelift, which range from Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 15.69 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). Deliveries for the updated Sonet are scheduled to commence in January 2024, with diesel manual variants reaching customers a month later, in February 2024. Kia offers the Sonet facelift with the same set of powertrain options and trims as the outgoing model. It is offered in three main trims- X-line, GT-line and Tech line and 7 variants- HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+, and X-line.
The Sonet subcompact SUV has received its first major update since its debut in 2020. The facelift now has a refreshed design. The Sonet facelift now comes with a new styling, featuring all LED lighting. This includes the crown jewel LED headlights, star map pattern LED DRLs, Ice Cube LED fog lamps and connected LED tail lights. While the LED headlights are offered from the HTX variant and above, the rest are offered with the HTK+ trim onwards. While the base trim gets 15-inch steel wheels with full wheel cover, now all trims from HTK and above get 16-inch alloy wheels. The higher trims also get the option between two crystal-cut alloy wheel designs.
In terms of features, it gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system of the same size, and LED ambient sound lighting. The cabin also boasts an electric sunroof. Safety features are improved, with standard offerings like six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and Level 1 ADAS options featuring forward collision warning, lane keep assist, and a lot more.
Powertrain options include a 1.2-litre petrol motor, a 1.5-litre diesel mill, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Transmission options include a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual, a six-speed iMT, a seven-speed DCT, and a six-speed automatic unit.

- Gt Line Commands A Significant Premium
- No 60:40 Split Rear Seats On Any Variant
The modifications to the Kia Sonet are indeed significant and beneficial, encompassing enhancements in styling, features, and technology, elevating the vehicle in every aspect. Given the substantial upgrades, while Kia may consider an attractive introductory price and it seems reasonable to account for the improved offerings.
Kia Sonet
The Kia Sonet has turned out to be a good proposition for Kia Motors in the compact SUV category of the Indian auto market. The Sonet looks and feels attractive, while offering good features and a refined driving experience overall.
The Kia Sonet offers an attractive design which looks quite stylish on the road. The Sonet is a more aggressively styled compact SUV with its bonnet lines, jewel-like LED DRLs, the tiger-nose grille, which is a Kia signature, and of course, the neat rear design. The Sonet is slightly wider and taller than the Venue while offering more ground clearance and also boot space. Yet, it is smaller than the XUV300 regarding its dimensions.
Diesel | 1.5 litre | 99/113 BHP | 240/250 Nm |
Petrol | 1.2 litre | 81.86 BHP | 115 Nm |
Petrol | 998 cc | 118.36 BHP | 172 Nm |
The Kia Sonet gets the 1.5 litre diesel engine in two tune states with automatic and manual transmission options. This creates a new trend in this segment. It is also a smooth diesel engine. There is also a naturally aspirated 1.2 litre petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission unit and a turbocharged 1.0 litre engine with 7-speed DCT and 6-speed iMT options. The diesel engine is perhaps the most refined and smooth in the category, while Kia has also kept noise levels at a minimum. The petrol engines are also powerful enough and do well in n city and on highway roads alike. The diesel engine has power between 1800-4000 RPM and this makes it a good highway driver overall. The engine, however, has some noise and feels underpowered after crossing the 4000 RPM mark. The 6-speed torque converter automatic is the pick of the lot in this case. The automatic gearbox also responds smoothly to shifts.
• Petrol Manual- 18.4 kmpl
• Diesel Manual- 24.1 kmpl
• Petrol iMT- 18.2 kmpl
• Petrol Automatic- 18.3 kmpl
• Diesel Automatic- 19 kmpl
The Kia Sonet offers a smooth and seamless driving experience overall. It comes with good drivability. There is a little movement, although the car takes undulating and bad roads in its stride. The suspension system is on the firmer side and the ride quality is also stiffer at lower speeds. The feel is uncomfortable at higher speeds as well. Kia has improved the ride quality in this case. The Sonet handles decently, however, with its rigid chassis inspiring confident direction changes at high speeds. There is low body roll, and this makes it a good option for the highway. Feedback from the steering wheel is also decent.
The Kia Sonet has a plush and welcoming interior. The rear space is slightly tighter, although it is wider than the Venue. The Seltos has its mark all over this cabin as well. The dashboard is similar with the 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment unit and the instrument cluster. The touch screen system comes with Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and Android Auto, while there is a Bose audio system. The interiors are clutter-free for the most part although the aesthetics may divide buyers. The GT Line version comes with an all-black theme. There are ventilated seats in front, along with bigger buttons for the central console. There is also an integrated air purifier for the car. There is space only for four adults in the car while the headroom is also not as good as you would want. Legroom is also minimal. There are several utility spaces in the cabin as well.
There is the 10.25-inch touch screen infotainment unit with Bluetooth, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There are several connectivity features along with an audio system from Bose, air purifier, and several other features.
The Sonet comes with six airbags, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and the tyre pressure monitoring system.
The HTK+ variant offers the most value with availability across all the gearbox and engine combinations. This has several features like projector fog lamps, automatic headlamps, automatic climate control and the 8-inch touch screen infotainment unit with Arkamys audio. There is the rear view camera as well. The HTK+ turbo petrol has even more features. If you want all the other features like the sunroof, connected car features, and ventilated seats, then you may consider the costlier HTX+ variant which comes at a king’s ransom over the HTK+. This gets pretty much all the features. Pay just a little more and you get the top-end GTX+ with a few other additions.
The Sonet takes on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Hyundai Venue and the Ford EcoSport in its segment. The Mahindra XUV300 is the only one without an automatic gearbox combination for its petrol engine. The Kia Sonet has the costliest petrol-manual combo. The Tata Nexon offers the cheapest petrol-automatic combination. The Venue offers the cheapest DCT automatic combination. The top-end Sonet is costlier than the top-end Venue, although it has more features. Overall, the Sonet can be costlier, especially for its diesel variants, but it has the features and refinement to make a mark in this segment.
The Sonet offers great refinement, good engines, excellent interiors, great features, and brand value. However, interior space is still on the lower side, while the ride quality could have been better. Yet, it leaves its own mark, especially when compared to some other cars which are not as well-equipped in the compact SUV segment.

Kia Sonet addresses almost every requirement of a buyer in Sub compact SUV segment . Great looks, good engines and transmission, descent interior space, superb interior quality, largest boot in segment, good ride and handling, and many first in segment features...some reviews on social media has complained of cramped rear seats space but I haven't found any issues .My height is more than 5'10 and after adjusting driver's seat according to my height there is enough legroom space for rear passenger of even more than 6 feet. Shoulder room for three large adults may be a little tight but acceptable keeping in view of competition. And you won't drive with full five adults always, what really matters is largest bootspace of 392 litres which is useful in family shopping and luggage placing for long tours. High ground clearance of 205 mm is really helpful in broken and hilly terrain and steering response is confident. What I personally feel is that ride quality is not plush or absorbing like Tata nexon but comparable to the rest of segment. My requirement was a silent and powerful fuel efficient diesel engine with good features and Sonet HTX manual diesel fulfilled that with added strong drivability. I have purchased car 2 weeks back and driven it for 900 Kms and I'm very happy with my decision..I will keep posting further pros and cons as I drive it more and more...for fuel efficient concerns it's giving me 18.1 kmpl even I hardly shift to fifth gear due to road conditions..

Been driving close to a month post purchase of HTX, the imt seems to be providing a mixed experience of automatic and a manual trans. The rear seat comfort comes at compromising the easier ride quality, the drive is real smooth and mileage will really be shocking as you maneuver in slow traffic ~6-7kmpl, but if you drive in the highway the actual mileage might be pretty satisfactory, I drove in a normal traffic without revving much, and I get close to 11-12kmpl, which is way less than their claim of 18kmpl. Sonet loses the 1 star just for that. Other than that the wait period (3 months) was a killer, but I would say it was worth the wait.
