What's New?
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan facelift has been launched in India in a single Elegance variant, priced at Rs. 34.69 lakh, ex-showroom. The new Volkswagen Tiguan facelift is being locally assembled in India and will be sold in our market as a petrol-only model. The SUV made its global debut in 2020 when it received subtle styling updates while the cabin upholstery was revised as well. The new Volkswagen Tiguan facelift will rival the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, and Citroen C5 AirCross.
As far as exteriors are concerned, the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with updated styling which is more in line with the brand's current design language. It sports a slightly tweaked radiator grille with LED Matrix headlights and LED DRLs going well with its sleek front end. Moreover, the front bumper has been revamped housing a triangular shaped fog lamp. Changes at the rear are limited to just slimmer taillights.
On the inside, the cabin upholstery too has been updated and it now sports a virtual cockpit as well. The seats are wrapped in Vienna leather and the long equipment list includes 30 shades ambient lighting, illuminated scuff plates, expansive panoramic sunroof, illuminated gear knob, touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, flat-bottom steering wheel with multi-functions, driver-side electric seat with memory function, three-zone climate control, and much more. As for safety, the SUV is loaded with six-airbags, a driver alert system, ABS, tyre pressure monitoring system, ESP, ASR, EDL, auto hold, hill start assist and hill descent control among others.
Under the hood, there is the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out 187 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission as standard and will be coupled with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is a well-built SUV, with a powerful and capable drivetrain, and a host of premium features. If you are looking for a well-built German SUV that comes with a powerful and capable drivetrain, and a host of premium features, then the Tiguan should definitely be on your final shortlist.
The Volkswagen Tiguan has been one of the more popular SUVs in the mid-size segment. And over the years, the German automaker has only been improving and taking the SUV to the next level. The new facelift brings forward a fresh take on this tried and tested stalwart, amplifying its strengths while addressing the ever-evolving demands of the contemporary SUV enthusiast. The SUV market is rife with competition, and for a vehicle to make a mark, it has to be more than just superficial changes. Let’s dive deeper into what makes this Tiguan stand out from its predecessors.
The Volkswagen Tiguan has always been a marvel in design, blending the brand’s German aesthetics with the rugged appeal of an SUV. The facelift edition enhances this very essence. The front façade bears a dominant presence, attributed to the wider chrome grille accentuated by horizontal slats. This, coupled with the brand’s new Matrix LED headlights, ensures that the Tiguan makes a statement from the get-go. These aren’t just any LEDs; each unit boasts 24 individual diodes, providing unparalleled illumination, crucial for those nighttime drives.
Furthermore, the Tiguan’s profile reveals a tale of dynamic lines and curves, giving it a motion even when stationary. The chrome detailing surrounding the windows and the lower sections add a touch of opulence. And for those with a keen eye for details, the 18-inch alloy wheels not only provide a sturdy drive but also give it a strong stance.
The moment you step inside the Tiguan, you are greeted by an ambiance that exudes premiumness. Every inch of the interior space, from the soft-touch dashboard to the door panels, reflects meticulous craftsmanship. The seating, adorned in Vienna leather, isn’t just about aesthetics; the bolstered seats offer superior comfort for both short drives and long journeys.
But the Tiguan isn’t just about luxury; it’s also about being technologically forward. At the center of the Tiguan’s cabin is an impressive 10-inch instrument cluster, providing a clear and engaging visual display. The adjacent 8-inch touchscreen is more than just a screen – it’s your gateway to music, maps, and more, thanks to compatibility with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Connectivity is further enhanced with the MY Volkswagen Connect app, ensuring that the driver is always in tune with the vehicle’s statistics, from fuel economy to tyre pressure.
Another testament to the Tiguan’s focus on convenience is the presence of a 3-zone automatic climate control, ensuring optimal comfort for all passengers. Though the Tiguan might not have every feature available in its segment, like wireless charging or ventilated seats, it compensates with other offerings such as a panoramic sunroof, cooled glove box, and an innovative foot swipe motion for the tailgate.
Safety is paramount when it comes to any vehicle, and the Volkswagen Tiguan takes this ethos to heart. With safety features that aren’t just about ticking boxes but genuinely enhancing passenger and driver protection, the Tiguan sets high standards. Integrated with six airbags, it ensures that every corner of the interior space is covered, cushioning occupants from any potential impact. Child safety, too, is given precedence with the inclusion of the ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Every passenger is assured of safety with 3-point seatbelts, while the electronic safety features further bolsters its position as your personal cocoon on wheels. From the rain-sensing wipers that adapt to the environment to the all-around disc brakes ensuring optimal stopping power, the Tiguan leaves no stone unturned. Additional features like the electronic stability control and hill start & descent control indicate Volkswagen’s attention to nuanced details, creating a safety net for varied driving conditions.
When discussing the Tiguan’s performance, it’s hard not to mention its heart: the expertly crafted 2.0-litre TSI engine. This isn’t just about horsepower and torque figures. It’s about how the Tiguan feels on the open road, with 187 bhp under the hood and 320 Nm of torque ready to be unleashed. Whether you’re navigating city streets or hitting the highway, the Tiguan delivers a drive that’s both responsive and robust. The turbocharger ensures that the power delivery is linear, minimizing turbo lag and maximizing exhilaration.
Coupled with the renowned 7-speed DSG transmission, the driving experience becomes even more refined. This gearbox not only ensures rapid shifts but does so with a finesse that’s palpable. Whether you are overtaking on a freeway or navigating rush-hour traffic, the Tiguan’s engine and transmission duo promises responsive performance and efficient fuel consumption.
Navigating diverse terrains and unpredictable conditions requires an SUV with impeccable ride quality and confident handling. The Tiguan, with its advanced suspension setup and dynamic chassis, offers just that. It beautifully balances the line between firmness for handling and suppleness for comfort. Whether you’re meandering through countryside bends or cruising on arrow-straight highways, the Tiguan’s steering feedback and body control inspire confidence.
The incorporation of the electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering ensures that the driver gets the right amount of feedback, adjusting automatically based on speed. This results in easier maneuvering at lower speeds and stable, assured handling at higher velocities. Moreover, the vehicle’s insulation and NVH levels are optimized to offer a serene, noise-free environment inside the cabin, even when the world outside is anything but.
Pricing a vehicle isn’t just about slapping a number based on components and profit. It’s about gauging the intrinsic value the vehicle offers. At Rs. 35.17 lakh (Volkswagen Tiguan ex-showroom in Delhi, India), the Volkswagen Tiguan might seem to tread on the premium side. However, when weighed against the plethora of features, cutting-edge technology, and unparalleled German engineering it offers, it becomes evident that every penny spent is an investment in quality, safety, and luxury.
Volkswagen has simplified this decision by offering the Tiguan in a single, fully-loaded Elegance variant. This approach ensures that every Tiguan owner experiences the SUV in its fullest glory, with no compromises. From the advanced safety features to the plush interiors and the powerful engine, the Tiguan Elegance leaves no room for want. For potential buyers, this eliminates the dilemma of choice, ensuring they receive the best of what Volkswagen has to offer in the Tiguan’s lineup.
The SUV market in India is brimming with options, each trying to carve its niche. While the Tiguan boasts German engineering and a suite of features, it squares off against formidable competitors like the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, and the Citroën C5 Aircross. Each of these rivals brings to the table their unique strengths. The Jeep Compass offers rugged appeal and off-road prowess, the Tucson is synonymous with Korean reliability and design, and the C5 Aircross introduces French luxury and flair. However, the Tiguan, with its blend of performance, luxury, and safety, promises a holistic driving experience that’s hard to match.
