The made-in-India 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 1.57 crore for the S 350d 4Matic while the S 450 4Matic is priced at Rs 1.62 crore ( All prices ex-showroom, India). The new-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class was Initially launched as a completely built unit (CBU) or fully imported model and almost half of the 150 units allocated for India were already sold even before its debut in our market. The locally assembled Mercedes-Benz S-Class is comparatively affordable by around Rs 60.40 lakh than the CBU units which were priced at Rs 2.17 crore and Rs 2.19 crore, respectively, and is likely to push sales even further. Having said that, timely delivery is still likely to be a constraint for the German carmaker given the global semiconductor shortage and the new S-Class is "techies dream", basically is loaded to the gills advanced tech.

The new-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a huge step up and even the locally assembled India-spec flagship sedan is not skimmed-off. It now gets new headlamps with individual modules which have million pixels inside that in combination with multi-beam LED headlamps along with ultra range high beam offers a 650 metre of illumination. The S-Class has always been an elegant sedan and looks classy, no matter what generation it belongs too. The new S-Class also grows in size by 34 mm in length and 34 mm in width and sees a significant 51 mm growth in wheelbase over the previous model. The more interesting part though is the aerodynamics! The S-Class has a drag coefficient of 0.22, which makes it one of the most aerodynamic cars in the world. While the CBU model was riding on AMG Line 20-inch wheels with low profile tyres, the locally assembled S-Class gets a size smaller wheels shod in comparatively tall profiles tyres for better ride quality on Indian roads. The locally assembled S-Class now gets automatic door handles and new horizontal combination tail lamps in a crystal design. The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is now 60 kg lighter than the previous model, which was achieved by employing 50 per cent of aluminium construction. The carmaker says the other 50 per cent is built with high rigidity steel.

On the inside, the made-in-India S-Class is sheer opulence. The cabin cocoons the occupants in a world of luxury. The materials used, the fit and finish and the way all of it is put together, is simply exquisite! The new S-Class gets seats that come with a massage function and 10 different massage programs to choose from. Other creature comforts include - 64 LED ambient lighting, a new 12.3-inch instrument cluster, panoramic sliding sunroof, along with Burmester high-end 3D sound system with 15 speakers, and ambient lighting with over 263 optic LED lights throughout the cabin. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class will get up to five OLED displays, four of which will be touchscreen. This includes the massive 12.8-inch infotainment system, equipped with the latest-gen MBUX system.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is also much safer now with features like segment-first frontal airbag for rear passengers, which bring the total count to 10 airbags, Mercedes' Pre-Safe package and pedestrian protection with active bonnet, 360-degree camera and more. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S-Class gets two engine options, a 3.0-litre petrol and a 3.0-litre diesel engine. Both models get a 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The petrol motor gets an integrated starter generator and therefore, qualifies as a mild hybrid engine.

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized reinforced sedans produced by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz, a division of the German company Mercedes-Benz AG. One of the most recognisable symbols of luxury automobiles worldwide is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It has been operating for more than forty years, and throughout that time, it has undergone a great deal of development.

How is the Design?

A German carmaker, Mercedes-Benz, is responsible for creating a premium vehicle known as the S-Class Mercedes-Benz. 1979 marked the Mercedes-S-Class’s debut, which has undergone numerous design evolutions since its inception. 2009 marked the debut of the most up-to-date iteration of the S-design. The S-Class from 2009 has a very streamlined and contemporary look. The vehicle has an extremely long wheelbase, contributing to its appearance. In addition to that, the car has a very low profile, which contributes to its intimidating appearance. A significant amount of natural light is let into the cabin of the 2009 S-Class thanks, in part, to the big rear windows that are standard on the vehicle. One of the most prominent aspects of the S-Class is its look. However, it comes equipped with a plethora of other opulent features. When you are driving down the street in this car, you will get much attention due to its elegant profile.

How does it perform?

The new S-Class comes with three engine choices, two of which are diesel and one of which is a gasoline-powered engine. The list of available engines is comprised of two diesel and one petrol-powered alternative.
Mercedes-Benz has manufactured the S500 with an inline six-cylinder engine, and even though it only has a capacity of three litres, it produces 429 horsepower at 6,100 rpm. This is sufficient for an acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 250 kmph. It revs easily and linearly distributes power, but there is not much of a sense of occasion regarding the acceleration, as it takes place in a manner that is quite matter-of-fact. Moreover, when equipped with the conventional 9G-Tronic transmission, gear shifts are nearly impossible to detect.
The S350d likewise features a three-litre inline-six engine, but it generates 282 horsepower across a powerband that is relatively wide (ranging from 3,400 to 4,600 rpm), and it has 600 Nm of torque, so it ought to have plenty of pulling power.

How’s the Mileage?

The Mercedes-Benz offers decent mileage on all variants. As per reports, the average mileage for all S-class models is 12.82 kmpl.

How’s the Driving Experience?

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class provides one of the most enjoyable and engaging driving experiences available today. Because it can be purchased with such a wide range of engines, from a fuel-saving diesel to a robust V8, the S-Class is a good option for consumers who want a comfortable ride combined with a generous amount of power. Moreover, the S-Class is one of the most comfortable automobiles available because of its superb performance and opulent features, such as heated seats and leather upholstery.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is widely regarded as one of the most opulent and high-tech automobiles now available. In addition, it is known for providing a driving experience that is both comfortable and polished, earning it the reputation of being one of the best driver’s vehicles now on the market.

The suspension system is one of the primary components that contribute to the overall quality of the driving experience it provides. Even on tougher roads, the ride will be smooth and comfortable due to this.
The S-Class has excellent sound insulation, which is even another advantageous attribute. Because of this, even if you are travelling at high speeds, you will not be able to hear the sounds coming from the exterior of your vehicle. Because of this, it is perfect for long car rides or other forms of travel. Traditional engines and hybrid models are both available for selection as powertrains for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Regardless of your option, you can be assured that you will be getting a dependable and strong engine that will make driving a breeze and a pleasure for you.
In general, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class provides an outstanding driving experience that is certain to meet and exceed the expectations of even the most particular motorists. Therefore, you need not go further than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class if you are searching for a premium car that performs exceptionally well.

What’s the Interior like?

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one of the most luxurious and comfortable in the world. The seats are incredibly comfortable, with plenty of room and support for larger individuals. It has a very high standardisation level, allowing for easy customisation for each individual. All the materials used are of the best quality, and there is plenty of space inside and outside the car. Furthermore, all the controls are well-located and easy to use.

Tech and Infotainment

The car also has two Harman Kardon speakers that provide high-quality sound reproduction. In addition, the MBUX operating system found in the S-Class has undergone significant revisions, including the addition of voice recognition from every seat in the vehicle.

In addition to advanced audio and video capabilities, the S-Class has several other features that make driving more comfortable and enjoyable. For example, it has an integrated satellite navigation system that provides drivers with real-time directions and access to local traffic updates. The car also has a built-in air conditioning system that keeps drivers cool during hot weather conditions.

Safety Equipment

In addition to these safety features, the car has an emergency response system that can activate if it detects an emergency while the car is in motion. This system includes GPS tracking and automatic braking.

Which variant to buy?

There are a total of two different versions of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. The S 350 d and the S450 are the models that sell the most units.

Which Cars Compete in this Segment?

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class competes in this segment with other luxury sedans like the Audi A8, BMW 740i, and Lexus LS. However, the S-Class has several features that set it apart from its competitors, including a V12 engine, leather upholstery, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
