What's New?
Audi India has launched the e-tron GT electric four-door coupe in India. The brand’s flagship electric car comes in two versions - Standard e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT. The standard model is priced at Rs. 1.6 crore whereas the sportier RS variant gets a price tag of Rs. 1.94 crore. The electric car comes to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). It is manufactured at the Audi Bollinger Hofe facility in Germany. It is the Ingolstadt-based carmaker’s third electric offering in India after the e-tron SUV and e-tron Sportback. The electric car made its global debut earlier this year.
Visually, the 2021 Audi e-tron sports a signature e-Tron pattern panel instead of the grille, Matrix LED headlights, bold sculpted lines and a large indentation on the bonnet. However, Audi laser light is available as an option for both models. The Audi e-tron GT rides on 19-inch wheels that can be upsized to 21-inch alloys with aero blades. At the rear, the car gets an end-to-end LED taillamp with arrowhead-shaped LED light signature. Dimension-wise, the Audi e-tron GT measures 4989 mm in length, 1964 mm in width, and 1418 mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2903 mm. The car is offered in nine colour options - Ibis White, Ascari Blue, Florest Silver, Kemora Grey, Mythos Black, Suzuka Grey, Tactics Green, Tango Red and Daytona Grey.
On the inside, the Audi e-tron GT gets a well-packed 5-seater cabin featuring a 12.3-inch instrument cluster with a virtual cockpit and a 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen display as standard. The system supports natural voice commands and Audi Connect services. The MMI navigation plus comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot as standard offering intelligent navigation with e-Tron specific functions. The 2021 Audi e-tron GT also comes with custom software that offers unique exhaust sounds further amplifying its sport character. The system is called AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System) and it generates separate exterior and interior sounds using the loudspeakers positioned both outside as well as inside the vehicle. You get three sound modes - Efficiency, Comfort and Dynamic.
The Audi e-Tron GT comes with two Permanently Excited Synchronous Machine (PSM) motors on each axle, mated to a two-speed transmission at the rear axle and an electric all-wheel drive. The electric car gets an 85 kWh Lithium-Ion battery and is supported by an 800-volt technology enabling fast DC charging up to 270 kW. The standard e-tron GT quattro variant offers an output of up to 390 kW (523 bhp) with a peak torque of 630 Nm. The RS e-tron GT, on the other hand, has an output of 475 kW (637 bhp) and 830 Nm of peak torque. While the e-tron GT Quattro has a range of 500 km, the RS e-Tron GT has a range of 481 km. The e-tron GT Quattro can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.1 seconds, with a top speed of 245 kmph. The RS variant does the same in 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph.
As for charging, the 2021 Audi e-tron GT comes with both AC and DC charging options. The German carmaker claims that the car can be charged from 5 to 80 per cent in 9.5 hours using an 11kW AC charger or 5 hours and 15 minutes using an optional 22kW AC charger. With a 270 kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from 5 to 80 per cent in just 22.5 minutes.
Expert Review on Audi E-Tron GT
Pros
- Outrageous Acceleration Is Addictive
- Well Equipped On Features
- Rear Seat Space Is Usable With A Practical Boot
Cons
- Ac Charging Is Extremely Slow
- Range Could Be Better
- Regenerative Braking Doesn'T Feel Adequate
On the whole though, the Audi RS e-tron GT is a very satisfying car to drive. It is comfortable even in its sportiest drive mode, it is luxurious, and will not tire you out in any way. It also has a drive range that can go as high as 480 kms, though my European counterparts tell me 380 kms is comfortably achieved. It takes anywhere from 9 hours to 22 minutes for an 80 per cent charge depending on the type of charger being used. It is now available in India starting at ₹ 2.05 crore.
