Expert Review on Land Rover Defender
Pros
- Impressive Off-Road Performance
- Amazing Road Presence
- 5-Star Euro Ncap Safety Rating
Cons
- A Bit On The Pricier Side
- 2.0 Petrol Engine Is Just About Adequate
- Some Interior Parts Don'T Feel Luxurious
The Land Rover Defender 110 SUV is massive in terms of proportions. There's no doubting the capability of the Defender, because it is in its genes. In terms of features, the top-spec Defender HSE variant comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, connected car tech, wireless charging, a Meridian audio system, 12-way electrically adjustable and heated front seats, a 360-degree surround camera, LED headlights and a panoramic sunroof.
How is the Design?
Land Rover has created an entirely new platform for the Defender dubbed the D7X, which is a monocoque chassis. The British company stated at the time of its global premiere that it is the stiffest chassis they have ever produced, in fact, it is three times stiffer than a body-on-ladder frame. While Land Rover offers the Defender with two engine options (petrol and diesel) in the worldwide market, India only receives the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, BS6 petrol engine, which produces 292 horsepower and 400 Nm of peak torque. A 3.0-litre, six-cylinder plug-in hybrid engine is also planned to be added to the line-up in the future.
It has completely independent air and coil spring suspension, a payload capacity of 900 kg, a wading depth of 900 mm, a towing capability of 3720 kg, and Land Rover's most modern Configurable Terrain Response 2 system to maximise traction and complement all mechanicals. In summary, the new Defender includes everything necessary to live up to the cult reputation of its predecessor. When travelling off road, it can lift itself by 145 mm and then automatically levels itself on the asphalt to retain driving dynamics. In order to improve entry and egress, the air suspension decreases ground clearance by 50 mm while entering and exiting the Defender.
Land Rover Defender mileage ranges from 8.58 kmpl to 11.42 kmpl. Defender Petrol mileage ranges from 8.58 kmpl to 8.78 kmpl, while Defender Diesel mileage is 11.42 kmpl.
The fact is that if you change your driving habits, a Defender can be a great everyday vehicle. You'll drive slowly but have a better time. We've created an excellent sound deadening technology that can reduce cabin noise, but it's still not a door-thunking-S-Class-Mercedes experience.
The famous Defender is known for its off-road capabilities. Whether you labour on the land or own it, this is one of the few vehicles that has no class and can be driven by anybody, anywhere. Apart from that. On a dairy farm in Derbyshire, we hired the new Land Rover Defender 90 from Stratstone Land Rover Nottingham to compare it against its predecessor, a 2008 Land Rover Defender Hard Top 90. On the other hand, they went head-to-head, focusing on the major qualities of each car, so we could see how these automobiles compare. It's worth mentioning that the Commercial Hard Top version of both the 90 and 110 body styles is available, but this article is about the passenger version of the new 90.
It makes its premiere. Defender introduces Land Rover's new Pivi Pro infotainment system, which, in addition to other fashionable connection capabilities, includes over-the-air (OTA) software upgrades that work anywhere in the globe. Two cellphones may be linked to the 10-inch touchscreen at the same time, and the navigation system can disable voice guiding when travelling on a known route. Other features such as 360-degree camera assist, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a head-up display have never been seen in a Defender before, and the new model comes with 85 ECUs capable of processing 21,000 network communications, which is rather amazing. Furthermore, it has three seating configurations: five seats, six seats, and seven seats (5+2).
At the heart of efficiency: To offer electric-only running with sustainable performance and economy, a 48-volt Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) engine will be supplemented by a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) powertrain. From the start, a full range of petrol and diesel engines will be offered.
Electrical architecture of the future: The New Defender is an all-terrain supercomputer thanks to Advanced Electrical Vehicle Architecture (EVA 2.0).
A step forward: Software-over-the-air upgrades for up to 14 electronic control modules ensure that the New Defender improves with age and can even repair itself remotely.
Jaguar Land Rover's new Pivi Pro software makes its debut in the Defender. The most recent system is constantly on, making it quicker and easier to use while also allowing consumers to connect two cellphones at the same time.
Digital Defender: An intuitive 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility enhances the user experience and expands the variety of functions.
New Activity Key: The waterproof and wearable Activity Key watch operates independently of the cutting-edge fob, allowing consumers to lock and unlock the New Defender from their wrist Command driving position: When employing the Advanced Tow Assist and Wade Sensing systems, ClearSight Ground View and ClearSight Rear View allow you to see more with 3D on-screen visualisation.
Off-road visibility: full colour Head-up Display delivers on-road and off-road information, as well as new video capability, placing critical information in front of the driver.
Remote Control Pack: Owners may remotely monitor their vehicle's fuel level, position, and route history via a smartphone app, as well as heat or cool the New Defender.
