What's New?
Isuzu Motor India has introduced the BS6-compliant D-Max V-Cross range in the country. The lifestyle pickup is offered in three variants - D-Max Hi-Lander, D-Max V-Cross Z 2WD AT, and the D-Max V-Cross Z Prestige 4WD AT. The BS6 upgrade has been a long coming for the lifestyle pick-up truck but has also made the range pricier than before with prices starting from Rs. 16.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Tamil Nadu). Apart from the update to meet the new emission norms, the BS6 Isuzu V-Cross now comes with a new entry-level Hi-Lander variant that is offered only in the rear-wheel-drive with a manual gearbox configuration.
The biggest update on the Isuzu D-Max range is the revised 1.9-litre diesel engine that now develops 161 bhp and 360 Nm of peak torque. The engine has seen an increment of 12 bhp and 10 Nm in power figures over the older version. The motor is paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.5-litre oil burner that was previously available on the BS4 version has now been discontinued.
On the feature front, the BS6 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross range now gets bi-LED projector lens headlamps, LED DRLs and LED taillights. The model also comes with a side-step, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic climate control, shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive, cruise control and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the top variants. It also gets an electrically adjustable driver's seat, 8-speaker audio system with roof-mounted speakers, six airbags, hill descent control, and hill start assist.
The new Isuzu D-Max Hi-Lander variant is more affordable and packs all the essential features including halogen headlamps, black ORVMs, and steel wheels. The fancier tech from the Prestige variants has been missed out. The model does get the essentials including a manual HVAC unit, power steering and windows. It also gets dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors as standard, while the more premium Prestige variant adds a rearview camera. The Hi-Lander misses out on the shift-on-fly 4WD system.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross range does not have a direct rival in the market but it does compete with the Mahindra Thar in the same price bracket.

Its combination of durability, comfort, and off-road capability makes it a versatile addition to any garage, whether as a primary vehicle for rural adventures or a secondary car for urbanites seeking escapades beyond the city limits.
Isuzu D-Max V-Cross Review:
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is a pickup truck designed to tackle both utility and adventure head-on. It features a 1.9-liter diesel engine coupled with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and boasts a shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive system, making it a versatile off-roader.
This Isuzu V-Cross makes a bold statement with its rugged and imposing design, reflecting its off-road capabilities. Upfront, you'll find a substantial chrome grille complemented by LED projector headlamps and striking LED DRLs. The bumper integrates fog lamps and a robust skid plate, signaling its readiness for adventures. The V-Cross's side profile exudes a muscular stance with flared wheel arches, roof rails, side steps, and stylish 18-inch alloy wheels. In the rear, LED tail lamps and a tailgate garnished with chrome are prominent design elements. This truck also incorporates a load deck capable of carrying up to 215 kg of cargo.
The cabin of the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is functional and spacious and can seat up to five passengers. The dual-tone dashboard features silver accents, creating a pleasing visual effect. At the center, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes the stage, supporting Bluetooth connectivity and various audio options. The instrument cluster combines analog speed and tachometer with a 4.2-inch multi-information display that provides all the essential information. The steering wheel, wrapped in leather, comes equipped with controls for audio, phone, and cruise functions. Depending on the variant, seats are upholstered in fabric or leatherette.

The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross offers a single engine option: a 1.9-liter turbo diesel generating 160 bhp at 3,500 rpm and 360 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. This robust engine can be had with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic, complete with paddle shifters. The V-Cross shines in the off-road department thanks to its shift-on-fly four-wheel-drive system, allowing seamless transitions between 2H, 4H, and 4L modes.
Behind the wheel, the V-Cross delivers a lively and refined performance. The engine exhibits strong low-end torque for swift acceleration and remarkable drivability. Its mid-range power delivery is robust and steady, though the top-end performance, while respectable, lacks an extra punch. The manual gearbox offers precise and smooth shifts, while the automatic transmission delivers swift and seamless gear changes. The four-wheel-drive system significantly boosts traction and stability, ensuring the V-Cross excels in various terrains.
The V-Cross strikes a fine balance in its suspension setup, offering a comfortable ride without compromising handling stability. This setup consists of independent double wishbone coil springs at the front and soft ride leaf springs at the rear. The suspension efficiently soaks up most road imperfections, providing a smooth journey for occupants. Steering is responsive and light at low speeds but gains appropriate weight at higher speeds, making the vehicle feel agile and confident while cornering with minimal body roll. Brakes offer strong bite and feedback, contributing to a sense of security behind the wheel.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross is competitively priced in its segment, ranging from Rs. 19.50 lakh to Rs. 26.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The manual variant is priced from Rs 19.50 lakh to Rs 23.50 lakh, while the automatic versions come in at Rs. 22.99 lakh to Rs. 26.99 lakh.
Isuzu offers four variants of the D-Max V-Cross: Hi-Lander, Z 4x4 MT, Z 4x4 AT, and Z Prestige 4x4 AT. The best value-for-money option is the Z 4x4 MT, which features the convenience of a manual gearbox along with most of the V-Cross's notable features and safety equipment. Buyers can also opt for dual-tone colors and a chrome package for a more premium appearance.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross competes against other pickup trucks and off-road vehicles in the market, including:
Toyota Hilux: The Hilux is a notable rival to the Isuzu pick-up and also boasts of solid mechanicals such as a 2.8-litre diesel engine and shift-on-the-fly four-wheel drive. Like the V-Cross it too can seat up to 5 people in the cabin in relative comfort and is capable of tackling adverse terrains and hauling heavy loads. The Hilux however is priced higher than the V-Cross sitting between Rs 30.40 lakh and Rs 37.90 lakh.

Excellent stability and control, both on and off road. Have seen many xuv and crysta drivers getting frustrated with this car, i.e not being able to overtake. If the road is pothole ridden, then other cars can forget about competing with vcross. Sometimes I can't help but laugh at people who think they are unable to overtake a pickup truck. Interior well designed for the price (vcross high), has ESC and traction control. Electronic seat adjustment, rain sensing wipers, auto aircon, rear mirror heater, auto cruise for highways and oodles of space for storage. Is it a luxury family vehicle...yes Is it an adventure vehicle... Yes Is it a load chugger...yes Is it a sleeping cabin...yes Is it a rugged vehicle...yes Is it a farm vehicle...yes Is it a rally vehicle...yes What not, and many more yesses. Pros: Excellent drive experience. Humongous road presence. Value for money. Unbeatable offroad king in its class. Numerous aftermarket upgrades. Cons: AV system is outdated, doesn't support android os or apple os. (Tech freaks should immediately change this) Couple of kms added to mileage wouldn't hurt.(but people shouldn't think much about this, as the power delivered and its uses outweigh the mileage). Require additional purchases to truly make it a beast.(maybe not an issue for people buying this vehicle) Doesn't fit for Indian mindset.( arrey yar, yeh toh pickup hain, goods wala gaddi) additional aftermarket purchases required to shut the mouths of those mentioned above. The toll gate guys insist that you pay double the money as they consider it a pickup (typical Indian mindset, no offence). The solution is to show your rc to the manager at the toll gate, which is time consuming. Easier way is to get a fastag, simple. Or maybe people will get used to as the time passes.
